Apprenticeship Applicant Information

Qualifications

Apprenticeship applications, before being accepted as apprentices, must be able to meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be at least 18 years at the time of interview. Must provide copy of birth certificate.
  2. Must be high school graduate or have a GED. Must have at least two year high school math with a passing grade. Must provide high school transcripts or equivalent.
  3. Must provide copy of valid State of Illinois Driver’s license.
  4. Must provide a copy of your Social Security Card.
  5. Provide copy of Military Discharge Form DD-214 if applicable.
  6. All documents requested must be submitted to qualify to take the aptitude test.
  7. All applicants who score at least 70% on the aptitude test will qualify for an interview.
  8. Shall provide a nonrefundable $20 cash fee when you submit your application.
  9. Shall provide a nonrefundable $20 cash fee at the time of test session before receiving test.

There is also  a Study Guide available for $20 at the JAC Offices. We would highly recommend purchasing.

Terms of Apprenticeship

  1. Serve as a probationary apprentice for a period of 1 year (1700-2000 hours of on-the-job training)
  2. Serve a 5 year apprenticeship including the probationary period (8500-10,000  hours of on-the-job training)
  3. Report for work on a regular basis
  4. Provide for your transportation to and from the job site
  5. Work in Public Sector Jobs without restrictions
  6. Work under the direction of a Journey Worker on the job site and perform job duties satisfactorily
  7. Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes
  8. Purchase text material for use in related training classes as required;
  9. Abide by all rules and regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee

Please see below for necessary documents you need to fill out and bring with you when you turn in your application.

 

Application Deadline is January 31, 2025

All applications with necessary documents must be turned in by the January 31, 2025, deadline to be considered for the 2025 apprenticeship program. Applications will not be considered if necessary documents have not been received.

Applications received after the January 31, 2025, deadline will be considered for the 2026 apprenticeship program and will receive notification of the application status in January of 2026.
